Weavers Academy Dominates Year 7 Athletic Championships at Wollaston School

Weavers Academy celebrated an incredible day of sporting success as their Year 7 students delivered a string of outstanding performances at the Athletic Championships held at Wollaston School.
In a display of speed, strength and teamwork, Weavers athletes stormed to the top of the leaderboards across multiple events — claiming an impressive nine 1st place finishes.
Among the standout performers was Mohammed Lawal, who achieved a remarkable treble by winning the 100m, 200m, and Shot Putt — earning the title of district champion in all three events. Theo Gregory soared to victory in the Long Jump, while Oliver Greenbank delivered a powerful throw to take first place in the Javelin.
Tommy Hyde and Mohammed A both earned runner-up positions in the Shot Putt, securing vital points for the boys’ team overall.
The girls’ team also shone brightly. Milia Dawset sprinted to a strong 3rd place in the 100m, while Amira Williams raced to 2nd place in the 200m. In the field events, Lois Layland took the district title in Long Jump, and Maja Stusik claimed 1st place in the Javelin. The girls’ Shot Putt event saw Weavers secure 2nd place, adding further to the medal tally.
The competition came to a thrilling conclusion with the relay races, where both the boys’ and girls’ teams delivered commanding performances — winning first place "by a country mile" and showcasing incredible coordination and pace.
A special shout-out goes to Adesewa, who displayed exceptional sportsmanship by stepping in to run the second leg of the relay for Manor School, helping them complete their team when they were short of athletes.
Speaking after the event, staff praised the students for their sportsmanship, effort, and determination throughout the day. It was not just a medal haul, but a testament to the hard work, spirit and togetherness that define sport at Weavers Academy.
A huge congratulations to all our athletes — you’ve done yourselves and the school proud!
