Curriculum Intent

At Weavers Academy, our Social Science curriculum aims to inspire students to critically engage with the world around them by exploring the complexities of human societies, cultures, and the environment. We strive to develop informed, responsible, and empathetic citizens who can understand the past, critically analyze the present, and contribute thoughtfully to shaping a sustainable and just future.

Through subjects like Psychology, Sociology, and Health & Social Care, we encourage students to ask insightful questions, challenge assumptions, and explore diverse perspectives. Our curriculum is designed to promote the development of key skills such as critical thinking, research, communication, and problem-solving, enabling students to apply their learning to real-world issues.

In Health & Social Care, students learn how values such as Respect and empathy underpin professional practice and relationships, fostering an understanding of equality and diversity in care settings. Sociology encourages learners to critically examine social structures and inequalities, promoting Engagement with issues of justice and fairness. Psychology develops Independence and Determination as students explore complex theories of human behavior and apply them to practical contexts, building resilience and analytical skills.

By providing opportunities for active learning and inquiry-based approaches, we aim to foster an appreciation of diversity, a commitment to social justice, and an understanding of the interconnectedness of global and local issues. These experiences cultivate Productivity through purposeful research and collaboration, while encouraging students to take ownership of their learning and demonstrate Independence in applying knowledge beyond the classroom.

We aim for all students to leave with a strong foundation in Social Science, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate a rapidly changing world and to contribute positively to society. In addition, we recognize the importance of personal development and well-being within our Social Science curriculum, encouraging students to reflect on their own values, attitudes, and behaviors. Our vision is for students to leave our school not only with academic qualifications but also with the confidence and ability to engage thoughtfully and responsibly in the wider world.
